What is a Solenoid?
A solenoid has many uses and interpretations. The most common is a device actuated by an electric coil to move a lever from one place to another. For example, a solenoid or solenoids is used to open and close a car door. In terms of Diesel Parts there are several kinds of solenoid:- There is the Stop solenoid, which is used to stop the Diesel Engine. Then there is the Advance Actuator which is used to advance the timing of the engine. All solenoids have electrical connections to the engine. There are many different brands, not least being Lucas/RotoDiesel, Bosch, Nippondenso. Manufacturers now produce Replacement Parts which are much cheaper. The replacement parts produced by Flag, Germany are amongst the best and represent a huge saving on a Branded Original solenoid. If you go to http://flag-diesel.rivousel.com you wil see many examples of solenoids.
