To emigrate or not.
By Damien Handslip of Flag Diesel Parts
We may go and stay in France, permanently. In order to confirm this we have decided to stay for 6 months in each of the two years, 2011 and 2012. If, after these “trial runs”, we believe we can handle the different life style and culture and our knowledge of French has grown to meet our requirements, then we shall settle in France. We live in a Lodge on a Holiday Home Park in Worcestershire. Selling this will become a priority. I have to take prescription drugs, so it is a matter of learning the routine of getting these in France through the NHS. The same is true of getting medical attention if needed. We already own a house in the South of France, free and clear of any mortgage. Therefore we can move quite readily to this house and settle in quickly, if desired. We know how to pay our French Taxes and Utilities, so no problems there. Diesel is cheaper and the same price as petrol. We are within easy reach of supermarkets and hypermarkets. We can drive to Narbonne in 40 minutes, a very nice seaside town at the Plage, and plenty of shops in Narbonne town. We are looking forward to the whole experience and the vineyards on our doorstep. The Canal du Midi runs just 5 minutes walk from our house and has views to admire. My favourite occupation is watching the tourists trying to berth up to the canal side, and sometimes making a complete hash of it. I intend to do some fishing, when I can get a permit. I have been recording weather temperatures over the last 7 years, so have a good idea what to expect. Au revoir

Thank you for that thought. I will be joining a community of a million or more Brits, so can always call on some I know already, although we intend to immerse ourselves in the local community, our neighbours have already welcomed us with open arms.
