Our Pilgrimage to the South of France

By Damien Handslip

Next week we are off to visit our house in the South of France.

We do this at least twice a year at the moment, but I always look forward to it.
We have a gardener look after the grounds while we are away.

We have amazing neighbours who keep an eye out for problems and let in any trades people who need access such as builders, plumbers etc.

We always organize a little "Aperitif" for them during our stay.

The area around our house includes the famous Canal du Midi. This year I hope to do a little fishing there to see if there are any fish worth catching.

I will be taking my fly rod to see if the fish will take the fly. My casting technique could do with the practice anyway.

The shutters need painting on the outside due to the effects of the sun, so the local paint shop should profit.

I hope to visit the vineyards to check on the quality and quantity of the grape harvest, such a chore!

It will be nice to see if the climbers we planted lasted year have developed well.

I will be back in touch at the end of our stay in September.

Sounds good to me. I would love to have a holiday home in the sun, especially right now when the worst of the British winter is upon us. Having just returned to the UK after 3 years in Florida, I am definitely missing the sunshine and warmth.

My wife and I thought we had it all covered and down, with a gorgeouse holiday by a lake and then the house near Carcassonne in the South of France.
Unfortunately we came unstuck with the holiday home. It was flooded whilst we were on our way home from France. 6 Months later the insurance companies stumped up and we had a new house. However we are stll trying to get redress on a number of issues including a boiler that has never worked since the start, and now the Manufacturers won't replace it saying it is out of warranty!
My wife has battled hard but is so disillusioned with the Park Management we may well bite the bullet and go to France sooner than later.
