Just about to leave
By Damien Handslip
Just about to leave to live in France and some things happen I did not need. 1. Three day nosebleed requiring hospitalisation. 2 Doc tells me my last PSA Test was 15 and believed I had an 85% chance of having Prostate Cancer. 3 Horrendous constipation following 1 above. 4 Reacting 2 above, brother the Consultant talked to his mate the Urologist who determined they should eliminate infection before further invasives tests were done. My Doc agreed and prescribed the suggested anti-biotics. Net result of all this is medication, France, continued medication, visit to my French Doctor and we are back on track. Nothing to it. All in a weeks work. Hope the Big C does not mind my dodging the bullet, but I rather like the idea of living my golden years out in the South of France with my beloved wife.

Little bit of bravado here, but it's all been a bit frenetic and I usually laugh this sort of thing off.

Thank you, Frederick. The boat on the Midi is our constant inspiraton. We are on a bend of the Canal, with a lovely cafe by it. The cafe is a frequent port of call.
You never know what's around the bend. Wishing you better days ahead for you and yours. Very nice photo.

Those sentiments would be reflected by the captain of the boat in the picture as he steers his way round the bend in the Canal du Midi. Thank you for your wishes. I am looking forward to my first cup of coffee in the cafe Rivassel on the land side of the bend.
Sorry to hear of your last minute problems before you left to live in France, Damien; at least you dealt with them and are positive! Looking forward to hearing about your new life in France!

Thank you for your sentiments. I just know everything will turn out fine, because even if it is prostate cancer, it is eminently manageable these days. At my age of 70 it is normal to have prostate problems, I just have to lay of the wild orgies!
This happened to my husband several months ago, and when we went to the doctor last time he told us about a new medicine that does the same thing as Warfarin, without having to be checked. Glenn has been taking it for 2 months, and it is so much better, less side effects. It is called Pradaxa (dabigatran etexilate)
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
I was aware of this warfarin alternative, but it was never suggested by my GP and I am taking Amiodarone which is not very friendly towards almost any medecine. I shall take it up with my new French GP and see what he has to say. Thanks for the tip.
