Airport Security

By Damien Handslip

There has been a lot of furore about scanners in airport security situations in the past few days.

It's all about a kind of whole body scanner which reveals all about what is under your clothing when you step into the scanning booth.

I have seen some shots on the TV and I must say the females look interesting, but not realistic nudes.
The men look pretty raunchy and put me in mind of the film Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegar when he goes through a scanner armed to the teeth.

The media have been weighing the pros and cons and look like they prefer to be blown up on a plane rather than succombe to the indignity of a scan.

It's all too much for me. I have not flown for many years except as a pilot on a light aircraft or a microlite or hang-glider.

I drive most places I want to go. My nephew flies people from Birmingham to Malaga etc, so he is more at risk than any passenger, and knowing him he will be only too happy to go through the scanner!

My take is, get used to it or don't fly. Oh and stop complaining about the long queues, it could save your life.

I firmly believe that full body screeners are a must for the safety of the flying public. If someone take offense to this procedure, they are free to take the train, the bus, their car, or stay home. I don't want them on my flight, if they aren't screened. This includes the pilots.
Thank you for sharing, Damien.
Best to you.
